WILL JAMES REID BE A BETTER PEDRO PENDUKO THAN JANNO?
Pedro Penduko will be back on the silver screen by 2018!
That's great news, right? We, Pinoys, love superheroes as much as the other nationalities around the world, especially those homegrown characters whom we adore and watch evolve through the years.
We, at Pinoy Top List, admit our confusion when Viva Films confirmed the casting of James Reid as one of our favorite komiks character, Pedro Penduko, The image of Janno Gibbs playing the role of the not-so-tall, quirky and funny character of Pedro will forever be etched in one's mind.
Can we imagine a half Pinoy with Australian accent play the role of the 100% Pinoy superhero? Nonetheless, it is thrilling to learn that the movie will be set in this modern times where the latest gadgets and technology will be used.
This adaptation will revolve around Peter Harris, a wimpy teenage Pedro Penduko, who was raised by his adoptive father in the US. Peter went back to the Philippines to look for his biological mother. When he found his mother and learned that she was a victim of an evil curse, his journey as the "chosen one" began.
The modern twists to the newest version of Pedro Penduko, who was originally a plain Pinoy who fights off evil forces through a magical amulet, are both exciting and surreal.
Who would forget Janno Gibbs as Pedro Penduko? It was one of his breakout projects as a comedian but maybe it's time for Pedro to have a character makeover to adapt to the technological advancements and modern ways of people today.
Do you think that James can surpass the portrayal of Janno? Some may say that James do not fit the bill but we have to wait and see as the project aims to take a step higher with the makeover of the characters and the re imagined plots and twists. We can't wait for the millennial version of Pedro Penduko! Filming of the movie has already started and will continue until next year.
