Isabelle Daza mocks cultural practices on Instagram
An "IT" girl is a young woman who has achieved a celebrity status because of her socialite lifestyle so it's safe to say that Georgina Wilson, Anne Curtis, Solenn Heusaff, Martinne Cajucom and Isabelle Daza definitely fit the bill. They are the global-trotting ladies who often convert their social media accounts into runways with their ultra-fashionable get ups. We get a glimpse of their socialite lifestyles, from their lust-worthy wardrobe to their exotic travels around the globe. Their husbands and life partners have gained fame also for their physique and of course, their enviable lifestyles and high profile social statuses.
Majority of these women were born with silver spoons in their mouth and equally popular parents or relatives. They move in a social circle where only the wealthy can mingle and explore. Thanks to the development of technology, we witness and see a glimpse of their super "sosyal" lives as well as their carelessness which begets flak from the public.
Recently, Georgina Wilson and Martine Cajucom, who co-own a posh eyewear brand, went under fire during their trip to China for wearing communist hats in Tianamen Square where a protest for democracy against the Communist regime resulted to a massacre of thousands of students.

The said photo stirred an online donnybrook. A lot of netizens commented on how the "it" girls should read history and learn more about cultural appropriation.
And now, it's Isabelle Daza's turn to post yet another controversial video on her Instagram story which poked fun on the proper way of handing out calling cards which is widely practiced by numerous nationalities around the globe. Although the Instagram story disappeared, a netizen was able to capture it and share it on Twitter.

Again, the public went crazy over this and called out Isabelle for being ignorant despite her privileged upbringing. She was accused of being disrespectful of other cultures and spiteful to others. Some even mentioned that these shenanigans were aimed to gain more publicity and for them to stay relevant.
Other fashion bloggers like Tricia Gosingtian and Camie Juan have gave their five cents on this matter. They, too, find these videos culturally demeaning and disrespectful.

Based on the video, these socialites, who others admire and follow religiously, are far from fazed from the hatred they received for their cultural insensitivity. Because of this, some of their followers campaigned on boycotting the brands they endorse and unfollowing them on their respective social media accounts. The public was hoping and waiting for an apology for their carelessness but instead, they received this as a response.
In this age of technological advancement and social media dominance, we all believe and practice freedom of expression. Although the purpose of the videos was to spread humor and good vibes, one must also observe cultural sensitivity to avoid cyber uproars and flak. As celebrities, they must take responsibility for their posts and learn to filter which is deemed inappropriate and insensitive to avoid hate comments and flak from netizens.
